Summer temperatures in the Central Valley can quickly become dangerous, especially for older adults, young children, individuals with medical conditions, and people experiencing homelessness. As the weather heats up, Tracy Community Connections Center (TCCC) encourages everyone to be aware of local cooling resources and to take steps to protect themselves and their neighbors from heat-related illness.
The City of Tracy has identified several Cooling Locations throughout the community where residents can find relief from extreme temperatures. These facilities provide safe, air-conditioned spaces during designated hours and can be an important resource for anyone who does not have reliable access to cooling at home.
For individuals experiencing homelessness, extreme heat can pose serious health risks. Dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke can develop quickly when temperatures remain high throughout the day. That’s why it’s important to seek shade, drink plenty of water, and take advantage of available cooling centers whenever possible.
The City of Tracy’s Temporary Emergency Housing Facility also offers daytime cooling access. Individuals interested in using this resource should call before 8:00 a.m. at (209) 208-5701 for information and availability.
At TCCC, our outreach team regularly works with community members who are vulnerable to extreme weather conditions. We encourage everyone to check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may be spending time outdoors during periods of excessive heat. Sharing information about cooling locations could help prevent a medical emergency.
If you see someone who appears to be struggling in the heat, help connect them with available resources and cooling options. Small acts of kindness and awareness can make a significant difference during the hottest months of the year.
Please review the City of Tracy Cooling Locations schedule and share it with anyone who may benefit. Together, we can help keep our community safe, healthy, and connected this summer.

As a community organization, Tracy Community Connections Center is committed to supporting local families in every way we can. That’s why we’re proud to serve as an official drop-off location for this year’s School Supply Drive, helping ensure students in our community have the supplies they need to begin the school year ready to learn.
The drive, organized by Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom (District 13), is collecting new school supplies through July 31. Every donated notebook, pencil, folder, or backpack helps remove a financial burden for local families and gives students the confidence to start the new school year with the tools they need to succeed.
If you’re already shopping for back-to-school items, consider picking up a few extra supplies to donate. Even a small contribution can make a meaningful difference for a student who may otherwise go without essential classroom materials.
You can drop off donations at participating locations, including Tracy Community Connections Center.

At Tracy Community Connections Center (TCCC), we know that restoring dignity often begins with meeting basic needs. That’s why we are incredibly grateful to Home2 Suites by Hilton Tracy for their recent donation of hundreds of clean towels for our Mobile Shower Program.
For many people experiencing homelessness, access to a hot shower can be life-changing. Beyond improving hygiene, it provides a sense of normalcy, confidence, and dignity. A clean towel may seem like a small thing, but for someone who has been living without reliable access to basic necessities, it can make a meaningful difference.
Our Mobile Shower Program serves 40-50 individuals per day throughout the Tracy community who need a safe place to shower, access hygiene supplies, and connect with additional resources. Every towel donated helps us continue providing these services while creating a welcoming environment for the people we serve.
Community partnerships make this work possible. We are continually inspired by local businesses that step up to support their neighbors and invest in the well-being of our community. Home2 Suites Tracy’s generosity helps ensure that our shower program remains a dependable resource for individuals working to overcome housing instability and rebuild their lives.
On behalf of our staff, volunteers, and clients, thank you to Home2 Suites Tracy for your kindness and commitment to serving the Tracy community. Your donation will have a direct and lasting impact on the people who rely on our programs every week.
As we age, taking care of our mental and emotional well-being becomes just as important as taking care of our physical health. Seniors may face challenges such as depression, anxiety, grief, social isolation, memory concerns, or adjusting to major life changes like retirement, the loss of a spouse, or declining health. Fortunately, there are behavioral health resources available for older adults in Tracy and throughout San Joaquin County.
Behavioral health care is a broad term that includes mental health services, counseling, psychiatric care, substance use treatment, and support for emotional well-being. While Tracy Community Connections Center (TCCC) does not provide behavioral health treatment directly, we regularly connect clients with behavioral health providers, county programs, and community resources that can help them access the care they need.
Many seniors are surprised to learn that behavioral health concerns can also affect housing stability. Untreated depression, anxiety, or other mental health conditions can make it harder to maintain employment, manage finances, keep medical appointments, or navigate housing challenges. That’s one reason TCCC works closely with local behavioral health providers and county agencies when helping clients access supportive services.
For eligible individuals in Stanislaus County, TCCC’s Transitional Rent Program works in partnership with county behavioral health services to provide temporary rental assistance and housing support. The program is available to qualifying individuals with behavioral health diagnoses who are experiencing homelessness or housing instability. While the program is not limited to seniors, older adults may benefit if they meet the eligibility requirements and are referred through the appropriate channels.
For seniors in Tracy and San Joaquin County, resources may include counseling services, senior support groups, Medi-Cal behavioral health benefits, county mental health programs, substance use treatment services, and specialized services for older adults. TCCC’s case management team can help connect individuals to available resources and guide them through the referral process.
If you or a loved one needs help finding behavioral health resources, housing support, or community services, TCCC is here to help connect you with the right programs and providers.
At Tracy Community Connections Center (TCCC), one of our most important goals is helping families avoid homelessness before it happens. Through the HousingWORKs Preventative Services program, TCCC has been able to provide housing support, rental assistance, case management, and community resource navigation to families across San Joaquin County.
Published below you will see that the recently released HousingWORKs FY 2024–2025 dashboard highlights the impact this program is already making. During the fiscal year, 276 individuals representing 72 households received support through HousingWORKs services. The program serves CalWORKs families who are either experiencing homelessness or at immediate risk of losing housing.
One of the most encouraging outcomes from the report is that 100% of participants in the Preventative Services program were able to maintain their housing after receiving assistance. Families received help with back rent, eviction prevention, landlord coordination, housing navigation, and referrals to additional services that support long-term stability.
The report also highlights the importance of serving historically underserved communities. According to the dashboard, 87% of individuals enrolled identified as part of historically underserved racial or ethnic populations. Many participating families came from zip codes in Tracy and Stockton, including 95376 and 95337.
Beyond the numbers, the report reflects real stories of resilience. One success story shared in the dashboard describes a pregnant single mother facing eviction after losing her job. Through HousingWORKs, she received emergency rental assistance, case management, and connections to community resources while continuing her job search. She was ultimately able to regain employment and stabilize housing for her family during a critical time.
